Keyway

Adventures in Logophilia, Day 159:

keyway

Simply, a keyway is the groove or channel for a key, especially in a lock requiring a flat metal key.

  2. I think that would be a totally good definition, Jon! I've realized lately how versatile words like this can be, and really it is one of the joys of being a writer, to see how many new definitions we can create! Thanks for sharing such an awesome thought!
